A Second Skin – a film by ReD Associates

Our original short film, A Second Skin, part of our special series on flesh, looks at how novel applications of natural materials, specifically mycelium, challenge our categories around beauty, material production, and innovation. We grapple with these themes through the story of Phil Ross, co-founder of MycoWorks, a California-based technology company that produces fungal mycelium for some of the world’s most iconic fashion houses. Phil’s approach bridges conceptual art and philosophy with bio-tech and material production, and forms, in short, a blueprint for a new way of making with nature.
