In 2013, $3 billion (USD) was invested in the hard sciences, while only $146 million was invested in the humanities. Christian Madsbjerg argues that offering more federal funding to the hard sciences is a problem for two reasons: it produces people with the same type of linear thinking, and it doesn’t nourish the sensitivity needed for understanding culture and people.
